Whispering Farms Montessori Academy

Beginner

Beginner Classroom (Ages 1-2 years old)

What to Expect

  • In our Beginner Classroom, children begin exploring the exciting world around them through physical activities like climbing, running, and throwing. These newfound motor skills allow them to gain confidence as they grow.
  • This is also the age where children learn to navigate relationships with their peers, establishing boundaries with phrases like “NO” and “MINE.” While social interactions increase, it’s important to understand that vocabulary is still developing, so falling, biting, or being bitten may occur as children learn how to communicate their feelings.
  • During this year, children will transition away from bottles and start using Sippy cups, progressing to regular cups by the end of the year. Bottles are not encouraged in the classroom.
  • We provide daily feedback on your child’s food intake, nap times, and diaper changes to keep you informed.
  • Separation anxiety is common at this age, as this may be the first time your child is away from home. Rest assured, we work with each child to make this transition as smooth as possible.

What to Bring

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Diaper cream
  • Pacifiers (only for nap time, if needed)
  • Two changes of season-appropriate clothing in a 2-gallon Ziploc bag, labeled with your child’s name
  • Lunchbox with an ice pack to keep milk/food cold if your child brings their own food

What Not to Bring

  • Toys or stuffed animals: While we understand it’s tempting to send your child with a favorite toy, this can create issues in the classroom. If another child has the same toy, it may lead to confusion and conflict. Additionally, toys from home can carry germs between school and home. For the sake of everyone’s health and emotional well-being, we encourage keeping personal toys and stuffed animals at home.

Daily Communication

We understand how important it is to stay connected with your child’s routine. You will receive daily updates on your child’s food intake, nap times, and diaper changes. This ensures that you remain informed and helps maintain consistency between home and school.

Health & Safety

For many children, this may be the first experience of being away from home. We understand that separation can be difficult and may lead to some tears or reluctance in the morning. Our caring staff is here to comfort your child and ease them into the routine, offering reassurance and gentle guidance throughout the day
